What is Online Therapy?
Online Therapy is the delivery of mental health treatment through the internet. I provide videoconferencing through a HIPAA compliant platform. Skype or FaceTime are not HIPAA compliant platforms. This is important to ensure your health information is protected.
Why Online Therapy?
Convenience
Instead of having to drive to your therapist’s office after work, you may be able to schedule your session from the comfort of your home. Being in your home can also allow a therapist to assist you in the moment to practice a new behavior. You could also have a session during your lunch hour, and eliminate having to leave early and arrive late.
Access
Online Therapy makes therapy accessible to those who are homebound, disabled or live in rural areas. Maybe you have a back condition that doesn’t allow you to sit for long periods of time. If you were in the comfort of your own home, you could sit and stand as needed during session with little to no interruption in the therapy process.
You are not limited to seeing a therapist in your city. You are able to work with any licensed therapist in California as long as you live in California. Whatever State you live in, your therapist must be licensed there too.
Confidentiality
You’ll no longer worry about running into your therapist in the local grocery store or around town. You also won’t run into anyone you know as the waiting room is eliminated.
Online Therapy is not appropriate if you are suffering from psychiatric conditions which require close or direct treatment. If you are having suicidal thoughts or are in a crisis situation, please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. You can also call the San Diego Access and Crisis Line 888-724-7240 or the National Suicide Hotline (1-800-273-TALK [8255])
